Biography
Bernardo Arévalo de León is a Senior Peacebuilding Advisor in Interpeace’s Advisory Team (IPAT) and has been working with Interpeace since 1996. He is an elected member of the Guatemalan Congress for the 2020-2024 period. Prior to his involvement with Interpeace, Bernardo served in Guatemala’s Foreign Service for over 12 years, including as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and as Ambassador to Spain. Bernardo has a Ph. D. in Sociology (Utrecht University) and a B.A. in Sociology and Social Anthropology (Hebrew University) and is the author of several books and articles on issues of democratization, SSR and civil-military relations, violence and peacebuilding.
